About Us

We began our journey to our current capabilities in 1981 when the company was incorporated as Payne Carpets, Inc. by founder and sole employee, Frank Payne.

The Company was engaged by Contract Distributors Corporation, a national flooring and installation broker based out of New York, to run its Chicago office.  In the early 1990’s Contract Distributors Corporation was sold and Frank Payne decided to separate from them and engage in business as Payne Carpets, Inc.

The Company continued to operate as a broker of flooring and installation services until July of 1992.  Payne Carpets moved to a small warehouse in Addision, IL and became signatory to an agreement with the Carpenters Union, adding a staff of skilled installers.  The Company experienced moderate growth for several years.

In 1994, Frank Payne retired and Mike O’Connell became President.  The Company continued to expand, by branching out from carpet installation into all phases of commercial flooring.  The Company was acquired by Mike O’Connell in 1994, at which time it moved to its current headquarters at 910 W. National Avenue in Addison, IL and changed its name to PCI FlorTech, Inc.

The decision was made to keep PCI as homage to the original organization and including FlorTech to distinguish itself as a new company.  PCI Flortech Inc’s new direction highlights its expanded capabilities encompassing the entire range of commercial flooring products.  This included vinyl composition tile, luxury vinyl, sheet vinyl, linoleum, rubber flooring, laminates, woods, as well as other specialty flooring products.  This expansion was coupled with a rigorous effort to cross train and certify installers, as well as adding new staff to accommodate these new areas of expertise.  In 2009 the Company became the first fully INSTALL certified contractor in the Chicago area and in 2013 became one of the first contractors in the nation to be able to offer the INSTALL Warranty –  an independent, third party warranty for all projects completed with PCI Flortech labor.

Since that time, PCI FlorTech, Inc. has become one of the premier commercial flooring contractors in the Midwest.  Exploration of innovative new surfaces such as the 20,000 square feet of Aluma Floor installed at the McCormick Tribune Campus of The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), FreeAxez metal carpet tile (revolutionary low profile access flooring) and a companywide initiative to increase awareness and application of carpet reclamation were a natural progression for this forward thinking company.  Today PCI FlorTech is the local leader in carpet reclamation, providing this service for its customers and extending this service to competitors in an effort to make the world a better place.

In 1997 a flooring maintenance company, PCI Image Enhancers, Ltd, was formed to provide additional services to its clientele.  That company has since merged with two others and is operated today as our sister company, TIMCO, LLC, to proactively maintain commercial environments.

In 2005 the Company joined Starnet, a national co-op of premier flooring contractors.

In 2013 two of PCI FlorTech’s long time employees, Tom Sheridan and Joe Tomazin became equity partners in the Company, allowing the Company to expand its management capabilities.

Today, the Company continues to provide the highest quality installation possible of flooring products and continues to adapt to an ever changing market with new and innovative products.  At PCI FlorTech, our pledge is to “Place our Clients First”.
